THE CHARACTER LAB
Guided by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT)

文部省・科学技術

Our small-group program is designed for tweens and teens who are developing the social-pragmatic language skills that support friendships, collaboration, and resilience. Unlike traditional “social skills classes,” this group draws inspiration from the Japanese Ministry of Education (MEXT) curriculum, which emphasizes ethics, character development, and the cultivation of respectful, responsible community members.

In our sessions, students learn how to:

  • Communicate effectively: mastering conversation skills like turn-taking, topic maintenance, and perspective-taking.

  • Build empathy and flexibility: recognizing others’ feelings, reading body language, and adjusting communication styles.

  • Strengthen moral reasoning: practicing fairness, responsibility, and kindness in daily interactions.

  • Develop self-advocacy and confidence: learning to express needs, set boundaries, and navigate social challenges.

Classes are intentionally small to allow for individualized attention and real-time feedback. We welcome both neurotypical and neurodiverse students, including those with ADHD and Level 1/2 Autism Spectrum Disorder, who benefit from practicing communication in a supportive, mixed-peer environment.

This program creates a safe, structured, and engaging space where tweens and teens can explore what it means to be not only a good communicator, but also a thoughtful, compassionate community member.
